Citizens Crusaders – Italian Supper
On Friday, February 12, 2010 our Citizens Crusaders Relay for Life team held an Italian Supper at the American Legion in Thompson. Serving over 150 delicious plates of spaghetti, meatballs and sausage, this event raised $1,000. The members of The American Legion Post 67 were outstanding!

Shortly after announcing the event total, Cynthia Trifone pledged a matching donation of $1,032 in loving memory of her son Zak Trifone.

Putnam Lions Volleyball Challenge
On Sunday, February 7th, 2010 the Putnam Lions Club held a charity fundraiser volleyball tournament. The event is held at the Pomfret School Field House in Pomfret CT on Route 44. The teams are A and B division Coed teams.

The Putnam Lions work to assist those in need with eye care; empowers the disabled; support victims of disasters, and contributes to local charities and organizations.

The Citizens National Bank is proud to once again participate as well as sponsor this event.

The CNB Eagles raised approximately $550 in donations and even though we didn’t win a game for the second year in a row; what we lacked in skills, we gained in team spirit!

Citizens Crusaders – All you can eat benefit breakfast
On Sunday, January 10, 2010 our Citizens Crusaders Relay for Life team held a benefit breakfast at the American Legion (Post 67) in Thompson. The Legion members whipped up a bountiful breakfast consisting of eggs, bacon, sausage, hash, beans & kielbasa, pancakes, English muffins, coffee and juice. This event raised $361. Stay tuned for another command performance on Palm Sunday, March 28, 2010. Hope to see you there.

This year, food banks are experiencing a dramatic increase in families seeking help. Working together with the community we helped stock the shelves of our local food banks.

From December 1 through 14, we collected your contributions of non-perishable food items at all office of Citizens National. Cash donations are also accepted. To further support the community’s efforts, Citizens National gave an additional $850 cash contribution to each one of these agencies to assist in their mission.

Northeastern Connecticut’s 8th Annual Holiday Dazzle Light Parade:
On Sunday, November 29, 2009 CNB participated in our eighth consecutive dazzle light parade festive. This fun-filled, illuminated holiday parade is held to celebrate the community spirit of the season! This 1.5 mile parade began on Grove Street and ended at the Owen Tarr Sports Complex in Putnam. The best turn out yet!

Next year, enter your civic club, youth group, classic car, church group, business, or family. Untangle your holiday lights and get glowing… because everyone is invited to enter a float or march in the parade!

Citizens Crusaders Thanksgiving Bake Sale:
The Citizens Crusaders held our annual Thanksgiving Bake Sale to benefit: NECT Relay for Life on Tuesday, November 24th and Wednesday, November 25th. This event raised $400 in the fight against cancer.

Putnam Fall Festival and the Old Towne Putnam Railroad Express:
Putnam Business Association organized a spectacular fall festival and the Old Towne Putnam Railroad Express trip on Saturday, October 24, 2009. Although it rained, patrons took a stroll through our quaint little town from Union Station to Providence Street. Visited our antique district, shopped our craft vendors in Rotary Park and perused our local merchants.

2nd Annual Personal Finance Symposium:
On Friday, October 16th, 2009, Quinebaug Valley Community College hosted series of personal finance workshops for incoming High School Seniors within Northeastern Connecticut.

The symposium covered topics such as Budgeting, Record Retention and Credit Utilization. The Citizens National Bank is proud to have presented General Financial Awareness, Investing and Credit - What you need to know. Well over 200 students were in attendance. Contact your School Guidance Office to sign up for this worthwhile program in 2010.

Thompson Community Day:
The Citizens National Bank, once again participated in this year’s event, held on Sunday, October 4, 2009 in Riverside Park, North Grosvenordale. The theme is "unity in community". There were contests, games, demonstrations, giveaways, door-prizes, face painting, tattoos and much, much more.

Well-Wishers Annual Guest Bartener & Karoake Night:
On Wednesday, September 30, 2009 the Well-Wishers held their annual Guest Bartender & Karoake Night at J.D. Coopers in Putnam. David Conrad (President & CEO) and Michael Denis (CFO) participated in a friendly challenge with Thomas Borner (CEO) and Bob Halloran (President & CFO) of Putnam Bank. CNB won the battle.

Well-Wishers work to raise funds for the Oncology Department at DKH. In the past, donations have furnished them with treatment chairs, personal TV sets and DVD players, special exam tables and scales; all items are geared toward patient comfort and to ease their time spent in treatment. This year the goal is new privacy curtains for the rooms and possibly a new hot beverage dispenser.

Shred Day:
On Saturday, September 26, 2009, CNB hosted another shred day in the parking lot of our main office (Putnam). Approximately 100 customers & neighbors took advantage of this free service to securely shred old personal documents. Keep an eye out for our next shred day event.

6th Annual Day Kimball Hospital Crusin’ for Cancer Care – Motorcycle and Classic Car Cruise.
On Sunday, June 28, 2009, 115 participants took part in the 6th Annual DKH Cruisin’ for Cancer Care ~ Motorcycle and Classic Car Cruise. Committee members, under the leadership of Chairpersons’, David and Rita Conrad, raised more than $10,000 through sponsorships, pledges, raffle and registrations. To date, Cruisin’ for Cancer Care has contributed more than $62,000 to the Day Kimball Hospital Deary Memorial Cancer Fund.

All money raised at this event will remain local and replenish the Day Kimball Hospital Deary Memorial Cancer Fund. This fund will help provide cancer related services and treatment to individuals in our community who otherwise may not have the financial resources available to obtain needed medical attention.

Great Strides for Cystic Fibrosis
Approximately 100 walkers laced up their sneakers on Saturday, June 6, 2009 to support the first Northeastern Connecticut Great Strides walk for Cystic Fibrosis.

This three mile walk started and ended in Rotary Park, Putnam. We were fortunate to have great walking weather on our side. The Citizens National Bank was there to support this worthy event with a 16 person team and overall contribution of $1,635.60.

QVCC Scholarships awarded
On the evening of May 20, 2009, The Citizens National Bank presented scholarships to QVCC students at the annual Awards Night. “We give to QVCC because it is one organization that can truly help our citizens reach for a better life and make our little area of the world a better place. Over the years we have seen how our donations make a difference in the lives of our citizens, and it truly makes us even prouder to have assisted in this role,” said David Conrad, president and chief executive officer of Citizens National Bank.

CNB Branch Managers joined Conrad to present the scholarships to Brianne, Beauregard, Andrea Britland, Sarah Cassidy, Samantha Delmas, Renee Gelinas, Lydia Lagerberg, Tiffany Mazzarella, Erin Norton, Anna Pingitore, Robert Savary III, Victoria Spink, Joel Tretheway and Jennifer Worden. Congratulations to all the scholarship recipients. Best wishes for a bright and successful future.

2009 American Cancer Society - Relay for Life
The Northeastern Connecticut Relay for Life Walk was held on May 16th & 17th at the Woodstock Fairgrounds. This is a fun-filled 24 hour walk, full of activities that mobilize communities across the country to celebrate survivorship, remember those who lost their lives to cancer, and raise money for the fight against cancer.

Citizens Crusaders took to the track for our 12th year. Team captains Shanon Sabourin, Susan Srednicki and Patricia Savulis lead a team of 38 walkers. Saturday began with sunshine, switching to rain and severe weather overnight.

Citizens Crusaders is very proud to announce a team total of $13,546.00, a combination of the CNB silver corporate sponsorship, bake sales and other numerous fundraisers prior to the Relay walk; walker sponsorships, as well as funds from the items sold during Relay.

During a CNB sponsored live WINY broadcast on Sunday morning, ACS Community Executive Development Officer Shannon Stahecki, and NECT Relay for Life Chair Melissa Franklin announced the total money raised at Relay for Life this year was $415,000. Donations will continue to be accepted until the August deadline.

This year’s theme was Celebrating 25 Years of Heroes. It is with the support of our CNB family and the entire community, we can proudly say that the Citizens Crusaders continue to fight for a cure. See you next year at Relay!

Shred Day:
On Saturday, April 18, 2009, CNB hosted “Thompson Shred Day” – Sponsored by The Thompson Together Environment Committee and Citizens National Bank. Approximately 100 customers & neighbors took advantage of this free service to securely shred old personal documents. The next scheduled Shred day is slated for Saturday, September 26, 2009 in the main office (182 Main Street, Putnam, CT 06260).

QVCC Hosts a Financial Planning Symposium
QVCC Business Program Coordinators, Jen Oliver and Steve Townsend developed an extensive one day workshop for High School Seniors and Juniors held on March 27th. Students cycled through a total of five educational sessions on topics ranging from personal banking to buying a house.

The Citizens National Bank is honored to have participated in this educational endeavor. President and CEO, David Conrad conducted investment sessions, Assistant Branch Manager, Joshua Peach and Management Trainee, Brian Krot conducted personal banking sessions.

Approximately 200 students were in attendance. “Clearly, there was a strong consensus that this program was worth doing at least once per year and maybe twice.” said Mr. Townsend.
